W e l c o m e t o t h e O F B p a g e a t U L K C !

"O.F.B. 1. n. (esp. in U.L.) Person adjudged to be too old for serious kayaking and excessive in weight. 2. n (esp. outside U.L.) Former member or associate of ULKC who has found enlightenment and discovered money. See also Wealthy."

An OFB is....

The great thing about ULKC is that you always sort of stay in touch with the club. The really shitty thing about ULKC is that you always sort of stay in touch. When you're stuck in this limbo state of never quite getting away from the "young shower" in UL, and not being sure whether thats a good thing or a bad thing, then you're an OFB...

It is not neccessary to have ever been a member of ULKC to become an OFB. Some peope have wound up becoming OFB's by just being in the wrong place at the wrong time...

If you are sure it's a good thing, then you're a Sad B...

There is also another class of people called LTFs. LTFs are just OFBs who haven't realised it yet...

Some of the OFBs...

Mark Murray - Mur

Up Munsters!! Possibly the canoeing worlds biggest Young Munsters fan, is Mur responsible the current appearance of the ULKC trailer?

Famous for: Getting off the river at the Cork intervarsities and producing a transistor radio to listen to the commentary of a Munsters game on the side of the river. His love life - or alleged lack thereof...

Dave "The Wave" Donnelly

Dave the wave was Captain of ULKC in 92/93. When he joined ULKC he was shy and stuff. Now he isn't...The Club takes some of the Credit.

Famous for: Knowing the number of Marine Rescue in Shannon off by heart.

Mike "The Taxi Driver" Evans

The original OFB himself. Mike happened to stumble onto ULKC because he was a brother of John. Orginally learned to kayak with UCG where he did a degree in kayaking and minored in Civil Engineering. Mike sold his soul to the devil and offered to drive people to rivers in exchange for use of the Thomand Pool. That was a bad deal.. years later, after several thousand miles on the clock, a broken wing mirror, and having been accused of being various peoples dads, Mike now lives in Port Laoise where he refuses to divulge his address or phone number, and still has nightmares about phone calls from Gary Fitz.

Famous for: Owning a car when cars were rare. Being the oldest person Gary Fitz ever knew..

.

Colm "Yogi" Phelan

"I know a bear you all know, Yogi...". Along with Bill and Morris, Colm discovered Kayaking in 3rd year at UL and decided to get good at it. He did. As Equipments officer for years, he was alway building stuff anf fixing boats.

Famous for: The best ever trailer loader ever.

Pat Dillon

The quiet man, this guy is now in the states, paddling squirts down Grade 4-5 (typical OFB bullshit from a safe distance). Pat, along with John E. was one of the founders in the early days of the club. After years spent working with club he finally graduated, and THEN he learned to paddle himself. He tried desperately to avoid the OFB bit but.....Not a hope.

Famous for: Wearing combats and that flowerpower hat in Glenbeigh for new years.

Morris Kelly

Another Mech Eng head (handy these guys) this lad'in took to canoeing like a duck to water....litterly. In his early days was the Munster Bongo Sliding/Surf Swimming champion. Then he discovered Sea kayaks....but they were a bit tough to bongo. Now he is (last I heard) a surf ski bum. This guy and the rest of the Waterford crowd discovered (invented I should say) rock hopping and bounce_surfing (catch a wave, the one in front of you bounces off a pier, and meets you comming in on the outside wave...hmmm)

Famous for: Sleeping in cots and wearing 9mm neoprene that had spent a night in the deep freeze....all in Mrs. Teehans house.

Bill Tierney

B.T. was captain of ULKC 93/94. Learning to canoe was never a problem, although figuring out what the paddles were for was. Billy learned to surf with his hands out of neccessity.

Famous for: Being economically unviable.

Bill Coyle

Bill was never captain, or never got involved with a club committee position...he was too cute....and thats probably a lot to do with the fact that he is now ...still....shit hot....even for an OFB.

Famous for:Having the same attitude to women as he does to club committee positions.

John Evans

John Evans was the first captain of ULKC in 91/92 after engineering the demise of the old ULCC (more like a coup) with Pat Dillon. John is (after a long absence) pretending to get back into the sport, so we will soon see what he is really made of.

Famous for: Never actually being able to canoe, but not letting anyone notice.

Andy "Chopper" McMahon

Andy just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and got stuck with the name Chopper by Limerick Canoe Club.

Famous for:Being a pretty good paddler, actually..

Dennis Dempsey

The long time pretender to Mike Evans' crown of "The" OFB, and now it's holder for a number of years, Dennis is looking for a successor. Arguably the most colour coordinated kayakist ever on the water, Dennis brought the a style to ULKC never before witnessed.

Famous for: His hair.
